1/25/12 GUEST SPEAKER
TONY TAYLOR

Tony Taylor has been featured in journals and TV specials and has been guest speaker at a variety of organizations. WHY? A 7-time convicted felon, Tony left a drug and crime-filled life behind when Royal Metal Industries in Olathe hired him as a laborer 10 years ago. Since then he has dedicated his life to God and helping ex-offenders overcome obstacles in their transition from prison back into society. He has been plant manager for Royal Metal for 8 years and has hired a large number of ex-offenders at Royal Metal and helped them learn the trade and move on to better paying salaries. He has encouraged other businesses to understand the benefits of hiring a lower wage employee wanting to work hard. Employers receive tax and other incentives and have an employee with a great attitude and lots of gratitude. He has been a correctional Chaplin for 10 years for Lansing, Salvation Army, county jail, and several other locations and believes God is the answer to turning your life around.
1/18/12 GUEST SPEAKER
Jorge Coromac
Heart to Heart International
Latinamerica Program Director

Jorge discussed the successes of our ongoing projects in the Region of Sololá, Guatemala and the last trip of 2011 that was made to Guatemala. Olathe Rotarians PDG Wes McCoy and Vice President Andrea Plowman joined the Heart to Heart team on this trip. (This is the 4th trip to Guatemala in 2011 for Wes!) Jorge is a member of the Lenexa Rotary Club and is from Guatemala. Jorge said the population the new health center is serving is 584 families/3400 people. He said they served 85% of those families in 2011. He said healthcare eventually will extend to surrounding communities that will include 14,000 families. This is a remote area with no medical care. To learn more about the ongoing 2011-2012 projects in Guatemala, click here. Thanks to donations from Kent Donley and Jerry Yoesel, chickens, goats, and rabbits were purchased to start family businesses in Guatemala.
1/11/12 GUEST SPEAKER
Antonio Booker
Johnson County Dept. of Corrections
Antonio spoke to Olathe Rotarians about the different programs being offered in the Johnson County Dept. of Corrections that help bridge the gap between offenders and the community by encouraging responsibility and behavioral change. He is the Director of the Adult Residential Center located at 141 Mission Parkway, New Century, KS, 1 of 8 components of this county endeavor. There are only two Adult Residential Centers in Kansas. The New Century center is the largest of the two and is a 398 bed, community based facility, that provides a highly structured environment for court ordered adult offenders. Its main objective is to reintegrate offenders into the community as successfull, productive citizens. Go to http://corrections.jocogov.org/intern.shtml for more information. For a tour of the center in New Century, contact Antonio, 913 829-0800.
